Norman Conquest and Tough Fields at Summer Series

The penultimate pair of GUKPT Summer Series festivals ran in tandem this week with action taking place in both Sheffield and Dundee’s G Casinos. Sheffield hosted four side events leading up to the £500 Main Event, while Dundee ran three around its own £300 tournament.

Side event action in Dundee kicked off on the 23rd of July with a two-day £200 NL Hold’em freezeout where Paul Watson took the top spot and £2,000 after beating 25 competitors. The following day saw the field size double as Calum Menzies won the £150 NL Hold’em freezeout event, while John Durkin sneaked into the money in 6th spot to make back-to-back Summer Series final tables.

The £300 Main Event saw 41 competitors play through the deep-stacked tournament, with Norman Levitt capturing the first prize of £4,310 and the top GUKPT ranking points award of the Series. Runner up Alisdair Macrae went on to run up twice in a row, finishing 2nd in the £100 NL Hold’em Bounty Freezeout which wrapped up the Scottish festival the following day, while Paul Watson took the top spot and £975. The others to finish in the money in the Main Event were Hamid Montaghian (3rd), John Chang, Jose Chatillon and Ian Young.

Sheffield got a one-day head start on Dundee, opening its Series with a £150 NL Hold’em freezeout which was won by Richard Trigg, who’d a few years previously come third in a £1,000 GUKPT Main Event and cashed in a smattering more along the way. He also cashed in the following £250 NL freezeout, which was won by Gregory Hunt. The £100 Pot Limit Omaha (1 Rebuy or Add-on) gave Masaud Hussain the victory, while Michael Davies outlasted 47 competitors in the final £100 NL Hold’em Bounty Freezeout, winning £1,250 and an as yet unconfirmed number of player scalps (minimum one, of course, for beating Patrick Donoghue heads up).

As for Sheffield’s Main Event, it was Luke Fields who took the top spot worth £9,250 and the seat at the Champion of Champions event, while the runner up, GUKPT regular and tournament veteran Tim Flanders, dramatically came back from the short stack ten-handed at the start of Day Two to outlast all but the final player.

The next event on the GUKPT calendar is the Luton leg held at the G Casino, with no fewer than 10 side events around the £1,000 Main Event taking place on the 12th August.
